Two Canadian rockers are among those in the running to lead Tommy Lee’s new group,
Supernova.
Lukas Rossi, 29, of Toronto and Jenny Galt, 29, of Vancouver are among 15 contestants vying to be the band’s lead singer in the second edition of the televised contest Rock Star.
Rock Star: Supernova will have singers from North America, Australia and Iceland trying to wow the Motley Crue drummer and his superstar bandmates — former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke.
The winner will record an album with Supernova and head out on a world tour in 2007.
Last summer, Mississauga-born, Nova Scotia-bred J.D. Fortune won Rock Star: INXS, hosted by Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke.
Scouts travelled the world — with stops in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Iceland and Malaysia — to find finalists for Rock Star: Supernova.
A brief bio on a Rock Star website describes Rossi’s voice as a cross between Freddie Mercury and Jeff Buckley. Rossi’s old band Cleavage was named Canada’s Best Unsigned Band at the North by Northeast Music Festival in June 2000.
Galt found a modicum of fame as part of Cherry Bomb, which released four albums and was picked up by Maplenationwide/Universal for distribution.
