Rock Star Supernova Toby Rand Right Place Right Time

Australian rocker Toby Rand admits he was sceptical when approached to be part of another reality TV program.
The Melbourne-born musician, who rose to fame after participating in the US reality show Rockstar: Supernova last year, says the thought of having cameras trail his band Juke Kartel while they toured America, was a big decision.

However, Rand’s doubts have been put to rest after viewing the final cut for the pilot, On The Road With … Juke Kartel, for the first time today.
The program, made by Sydney firm Spirit Chaser Productions, is in the process of being marketed to commercial and pay-TV networks locally and abroad.
“When I got pitched the idea last December, I thought it could be really cool, but could be really detrimental to our careers going on another one (reality program),” the 29-year-old said ahead of Juke Kartel’s gig supporting Tommy Lee’s band Supernova in Sydney tonight.
“But the way I see it (now), is that it’s raw. There is no fabrication. What you see is what you get. There are no producers twisting it to make someone look like a dick.”
This was one issue Rand says he encountered as a contestant on Rockstar: Supernova.
However, the performer admits that for the most part the experience was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“I don’t mind (reality TV) at all, I think there is a lot of shit, but I think I was fortunate that the one I went on was actually good,” Rand said.
“And having Tommy Lee on there, that drew me to it even more.”
With his tattoos and facial piercing, one might assume Rand is your typical rock ‘n roll bad boy, however, the musician says he’s misunderstood, just like his mate, Lee.
“The (rock ‘n roll) lifestyle is a whole different world, but I am by no means going to turn into one of those pigs,” Rand said.
“We are cheeky. Tommy Lee isn’t a bad boy, he’s a great guy. Bad boys are like Axl Rose who cracks the shits. T Lee is always smiling. I’ve learned so much from him.”
Juke Kartel’s debut album is in the process of being mixed in Los Angeles and will be released later this year.
